I am learning a lot about that difference. Exhort means to "urge" or encourage.

I think that the quotes above are more or less "critical" rather than being mostly "urging" or encouraging in nature. For that I am sorry. There were times that even Jesus left people hanging with criticism, but He reserved this treatment only for Pharisees, those who knew what was right and chose to throw it away. I do not think that this composes the heart of pretty much any traditional church. I believe in the traditional church -- that it is filled with people who not only want to see God win the hearts of their neighbors, but are also doing it. I can't tell you how many times I hear of the wonderful outreach individuals in my church and other churches (my closest friends attend other congregations) are doing on their own with no one telling them or showing them how to do it. They just live with this kind of passion for God and for people!

I almost didn't publish this post. Because it was critical.

However these are the words that stick in my mind, and I believe the observations are challenging. How do we feel about church? Are there times when being with other believers is all we want to do? If so, how can we release some of the time we spend at church? Can we loosen up some of those time commitments and make ourselves a little more available for God's mission somewhere in our world? Whether it be in your hobby community, your school, workplace, neighborhood - how can we use our time at church to trust God to do totally amazing things when we are not gathered together?

I hope this is a little more encouraging!

1 Cor. 10:31 "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

I have some great stories to share about what God has been up to in my life and the life of others. I'm so excited to share it, but I am waiting to see if I can have their permission first.

- Michele
Sanctificationhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12840607408258267991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11892709.post-19009258659218136772013-02-05T21:53:36.612-08:002013-02-05T21:53:36.612-08:00I went through and edited this post after publishi...I went through and edited this post after publishing it, because God wasn't done speaking to me about how the "We're okay, you're going to be fine" part should come out.

It is absolutely amazing to me how I end up writing blog posts. I can't say I'm clear or brief. In this case, the only reason why I started associating the tragedies last December with the hemorrhaging woman is because she wouldn't deal with Jesus face to face, and in part because of the crowd.

Then I remembered, just as I'm writing, that people with chronic illness are among those who have risk for post traumatic stress.

Come to find next that as I'm entering the actual passage from Mark chapter 5, I notice this description about her: "fearing" and "trembling." Why would she be visibly shaking? I can't come up with a reason why she'd be shaking, instead of rejoicing.

Except I just believe that when God gives a valid insight into His Word, it actually unlocks understanding of the passage, as I wonder if it might in this case.

God is very, very good, and I love venturing into His Word to discover what there is to understand about His deep, deep, transforming love... in the places where real people live.

"We're okay. You're going to be fine." I'll have to back that up Biblically, but it makes a good translation for the comfort that God gives moment by moment to His people.

Sanctificationhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12840607408258267991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11892709.post-21966645863367586762013-01-20T15:38:36.777-08:002013-01-20T15:38:36.777-08:00It is good to know how you are doing regardless if...It is good to know how you are doing regardless if it is the best or the worst or somewhere in between. :)

You are my friend and I love you as my brother as well. At the same time, I know I must put Christ first and furthering the kingdom of God. The only way to do that is to share my faith in a gentle and loving way. To show the heart of the Lord Jesus, I try very hard to share without a hint of judgement so they will be drawn with sweetness and not fear.

Because I am not perfect, and cannot accomplish anything on my own, I depend on the Lord to take what I have to offer and work his wonders. It is He who does the work, not I. I am his servant, as he has asked, to meet the needs of his flock where he leads me, and to draw others too Him.

In every circimstance there is opportunity to glorify God. I was asking because when you talk about the prophetic, people tend to sometimes get spooky or declare themselves Prophet so and so but I'm with you on that ... not knowing what to call it although I think you can be confident of what the Word says about the gift of prophecy, that it edify's and builds up the hearer. If you are doing that, no need to add titles just keep doing it. And especially to the unchurched that is great! Now you said you were trying to understand why you predictably keep orienting in the same way ... what did you mean by that?
